MEET THE SHERIFF
|
Stacy L. Nicholson Sheriff Nicholson is a lifelong resident of Gilmer County. He graduated from Gilmer High School in 1989. While there he played football and baseball and he is still an avid "Bobcat" fan. After high school, Sheriff Nicholson attended Berry College for one year before transferring to North Georgia College as a Criminal Justice major. The Sheriff began his career with the Gilmer County Sheriff's Office on March 3, 1991. Since that day, he has served in just about every capacity the department has to offer: dispatch, jailer, deputy, detective, chief detective, public information officer and now Sheriff. Sheriff Nicholson serves his community, not only as Sheriff, but on many boards and committees as well. The Sheriff is Chairman of the Control Board for the Zell Miller Mountain Parkway Drug Task Force, Georgia Sheriff's Association Training and Standards Committee member, officer of Executive Board for Gilmer County Family Connection. He is a member of the Fraternal Order of Police - Appalachian Lodge #92, where he was the charter year president. He is a past board member of the Appalachain Children's Center. Sheriff Nicholson, away from work, enjoys working with children in youth sports and has been a softball and basketball coach for a number of years. He also has a tremendous love for the outdoors and spends many a Fall morning deer hunting from a tree stand.
