An anonymous message phoned into the recently instituted tip line at the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Department has been responsible for the apprehension of two suspects in at least four construction site burglaries and possibly another burglary in Forsyth County.

Acting on a couple of tips called in on the tip line, Gilmer County detectives executed a search warrant last Wednesday, July 7, for residence off Burnt Mountain Road in south west Gilmer County where a number of stolen items from Gilmer County construction sites were recovered.

As the case developed, a search warrant was issued for a residence in Marble Hill, which is in Pickens County, where more stolen items from the construction sites were recovered.

Arrested in connection with the burglaries were Randall Cabe, age 26, of Ellijay, and Stephen Williams, age 34, of Marble Hill.

Both men were each charged with four counts of burglary and four counts of theft by taking.

Construction tools, power tools, ladders, computers, televisions, office equipment, and furniture were recovered from the residences.

Det. Stacy Nicholson said he believed about 40 percent of the stolen merchandise had been recovered and hoped more would be recovered as the investigation continued. “We believe these burglaries have a connection to a burglary in Forsyth County, and we hope that these arrests will lead to the recovery of more stolen items and more arrests,” said Nicholson.

The detective added, “I want to thank the people who called in the tips to the department’s tip line. We hope more people will use it to report suspicious activity.”

The number is (706) 635-TIPS (8477).

In other law enforcement news, law officers responded to a stabbing Monday, July 12, on Pike Road just off Big Creek Road, around 5 p.m.

According to Gilmer County detectives, Danny Owen was stabbed during an altercation with John Collins. Owen was flown to Erlanger Medical Center.

At press time Tuesday, July 13, Owen’s condition was not known.
