A North Carolina man has been arrested in connection with the stabbing of a Gilmer County man last Friday, Jan. 2.

Chief Detective Capt. Stacy Nicholson of the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Department told the Times-Courier that Matthew Deyton, 21, from Murphy, was arrested Tuesday, Jan. 6, and charged with aggravated assault.

The charge stems from an altercation between Deyton and Jamie Teague, 21, of Ellijay. The incident took place on Rose Garden Road in southern Gilmer County.

Teague was treated and released from North Georgia Medical Center.

In other law enforcement news, Nicholson said he expected an arrest “very soon” in the abduction and sexual assault of a Wal-Mart employee. The abduction took place in the store’s parking lot on Thanksgiving Day as the employee was reporting to work.
