The investigation into multiple pieces of stolen heavy equipment found in Gilmer County continues, and an agent for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) told the Times-Courier at press time Tuesday, May 9, more arrests are forthcoming.
GBI Special Agent in Charge (SAC) John Cagle said several more pieces of stolen equipment, including grading equipment and four-wheelers, have been recovered in Gilmer County and the value of the equipment recovered so far amounts to “over $500,000.”
SAC Cagle is requesting anyone who has purchased, leased, or rented any piece of equipment from Nathan Anderson to contact the GBI’s Cleveland office at (706) 348-4866 or the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Department’s Criminal Investigation Division at (706) 635-4646 so law officers can check to see if it is stolen.
Anderson was arrested on Tuesday, April 18, and charged with 12 counts of theft by receiving, two counts of influencing a witness and one count of tampering with a witness in Gilmer County. He also answered similar charges in Union and Pickens counties. Cagle did not comment on whether Anderson would face additional charges regarding the other equipment that had been recovered.
Gilmer County Sheriff Stacy Nicholson reemphasized the GBI agent’s request for those who had purchased, leased or rented equipment from Anderson to contact investigators from his department so equipment can be checked.
Nicholson also said, “I am appreciative of the cooperation between our detectives, agents from the GBI, and personnel in the district attorney’s office during the course of this long and continuing investigation. I am very proud of all of those who have taken part.”
