The activities of two car thieves ran out of gas Thursday, March 31, when they were apprehended by Gilmer County Sheriff’s Sgt. Kenny Wiggins – while they were driving a stolen vehicle.
Law enforcement records show Michael Massey, 21, and Anthony Miller, 17, both of Ellijay, were arrested and charged with motor vehicle theft and entering autos. The incidences of the crimes took place over the months of February and March of this year.
According to Det. Lane Bennett of the Ellijay Police Dept., the two have been tied to three stolen motor vehicles in the city of Ellijay and two cases of entering an automobile.
Massey has confessed to the car thefts.
Both Gilmer County Sheriff Stacy Nicholson and Ellijay Police Chief Larry Callahan had high praise for the officers involved in the investigation and apprehension of the suspects and for the spirit of cooperation between the two departments regarding this case.
Both law enforcement executives praised Wiggins and Capt. Chris Goulart from the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Department and Bennett and Lt. Mike Laney of the Ellijay Police Department.
