Undercover operation nets suspect, drugs

Allen Wigington A joint investigation lasting two days and involving the Pickens, Gilmer and Dawson County Sheriff’s Offices along with agents from the Zell Miller Mountain Parkway Drug Task Force (DTF) has netted more than $115,000 worth of methamphetamine and marijuana being taken off the streets of north Georgia. Deputies and narcotics agents started Wednesday, May 16, working and making arrests across a three-county area in north Georgia. The arrests led to more than one half pound of methamphetamine and almost one and one half pounds of marijuana being seized in Gilmer County. Deputies and agents made the final arrest late on Thursday night, May 17, in Jasper where nearly 22 pounds of marijuana and two pounds of methamphetamine were seized during an undercover operation. Arrested in connection with the case was Alvaro Carraza Echevarria, age 44 of Marietta. He has been charged with trafficking methamphetamine and marijuana and is being held in the Pickens County Jail with no bond. |
