Gilmer County detectives were pleasantly surprised at what they uncovered during an undercover drug buy last Wednesday, Dec. 20.

Along with over five pounds marijuana, detectives discovered methamphetamine and Schedule IV prescription drugs that had been bagged for resale at a residence in the Gunstock Creek area of Gilmer County. The drugs had an estimated street value of over $13,000.

Along with the drugs, officers also found two firearms, 18 gallons of untaxed liquor in the form of what appeared to be labeled apple brandy, peach brandy, and corn liquor. The liquor was in half gallon jars.

Cash totalling just over $15,000 was also recovered and seized.

Delmer Green, 51, of Ellijay, was arrested and charged with the crime.

Det. R.T. Henry and Det. Lane Bennett led the investigation into the drug case. Bennett told the Times-Courier, “The alleged suspect had an ongoing marijuana and liquor distribution business going for some time. We were glad to catch him in the act.”

Gilmer County Sheriff Stacy Nicholson said, “This is a good arrest executed by our detectives. They received information and were able to act on it quickly and with a positive outcome.

“The drug task force has been real busy up in Fannin County and down in Pickens County in the past few months. Our detectives and officers took this incident and saw it through to a successful and rewarding end. Quite a bit of drugs were removed from the streets and our community, and we expect to continue to make more drug arrests in the near future.”
