Gilmer County detectives have been busy over the last few weeks, and their efforts are paying dividends. Recently, detectives and agents from the Zell Miller Mountain Parkway Drug Task Force (DTF) executed six search warrants in Gilmer County that resulted in the arrest of three people, which included a 15 year old juvenile.

According to Det. Lane Bennett of the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Department’s Criminal investigation Division, the adults arrested were Blake Cody DeFoor and Joe Cain. The charges ranged from burglary, theft by taking, manufacturing marijuana, and possession of methamphetamine to possession of a sawed-off shotgun. Property and evidence recovered included power tools and stolen firearms.

During the course of the investigation it was discovered that more individuals were involved in a number of burglaries and investigators have opened more cases. Detectives and drug agents are currently working to bring charges against several other individuals regarding this case.

Det. R.T. Henry told the Times-Courier that detectives made several arrests and cleared up five cases of burglary. A total of two burglaries in the Coosawattee River Resort were solved, as was a burglary on Back Pine Way, a burglary in the Whitepath Golf Course area, and a burglary in the Tyler Road area.

Two suspects have been arrested in the case and the investigation is ongoing.

Det. Bennett and Det. Eldridge Harper have recovered a number of stolen items related to the burglaries.

In yet another case, Henry said detectives are very close to charging “an individual or individuals” in a robbery that occurred at the Pink Pig restaurant.

Investigators are asking anyone who has had property stolen to contact the CID at (706) 635-4646.
